Third Grade Climbers Day

On October 11, 1996, seventy-seven third grade students participated in an all day Climbers Activities Day. There were four different activities the third graders participated in. The four different activities were cooperative building, cooperative games, a compass activity, and a ropes course activity.

COMPASS ACTIVITY

At the compass activity third graders worked together with compasses to find pieces of a puzzle and treasure. They started out at the top of a hill and using directions, they found what they were looking for. They had a lot of fun!

COOPERATIVE BUILDING

Cooperative building by third grade students.

The cooperative building activity was an activity where the whole group made a project using boxes, paper towel rolls, cardboard, styrofoam, packing material, and paper. Groups this year made things from boats to football fields to Wiscasset Primary School with the Morris farm. The third graders did great jobs on their projects!

ROPES COURSE

Wiscasset Primary School is very lucky to have a ropes course for third and fourth graders to use. On third grade CLIMBERS Day, third graders used it for activities. One was an activity where there were two cables for each person to stand on (shown here above). Students walked down the cables with their partner while using their partner as a wall to push on while they did the same thing, and if they were equal in weight, they would probably make it all the way to the end. The third graders had a lot of fun at this activity!

COOPERATIVE GAMES

The cooperative games activity station was where the whole group played a game together. They also did some problem solving. This year they played a game where the third graders pretended they were frogs. They had to get across a bog stepping on makeshift lily pads to get across. The lily pads were sucked into the bog if there was nobody on them. The third graders did a wonderful job at this station!
