The Wiscasset Fire Station

by Ben and Andrew

(We visited this on our class trip to Govenment buildings and historical landmarks in Wiscasset, Maine.)

We went to the fire station and talked with Mr. Rines. In school, Mr. Wheeler came and talked to us.

The fire station helps other towns with big fires. This structure has been here since 1968. The fire department started off at the Scout Hall. Scout Hall had one garage, a meeting place, and 35 people working there. The oldest truck is a 48 year old truck. They have 44 people working at the new fire station. One ladder reaches 75 feet high. The fire station has an ice fishing derby, a New Years Eve dance, and the rabies clinic. They have training every Wednesday.

There is a fire museum, located on Federal Street, in the stable in the rear of the Nickels Sortwell House. The oldest piece of equipment on exhibit is Wiscasset's hand tub, dated 1803.
