Mrs. Baston's Kindergarten News

March 28, 1997

(Each week, Mrs. Baston's kindergarten students write a newsletter and take pictures with our QuickTake 150 digital camera. This week we decided to create a web page so we could share our information with you.)

Our Week in School

Our Chicks are hatching!! First the eggs had little cracks. Then the chicks pecked out of the eggs. The first chick was black with a little yellow. It had to stay in the incubator until it was dry and fluffy. The chicks have a house to live in. There is food and water and a light to keep them warm. We will keep them in our classroom for a few days. Then they will go back to the farm.

We have two new poems. One is about a chick and the other is about a kite.

We read the poem The Queen of Hearts all by ourselves.

We made Easter eggs. First we used a pencil sharpener to make crayon shavings. Then we ironed them between wax paper so they would melt. They look pretty when they hang in a window.

We colored eggs different colors and hid them in grass.

We listened to a song called Everything Grows..Then we made a book about things that grow. We used tissue paper to make the colors.

We shared pictures of when we were babies. It was fun to guess who each person was. Mrs. Abbott weighed us and measured us so we could see how much we have grown.

We read the book Chickens Aren't the Only Ones. It is about lots of animals that hatch from eggs. We sorted pictures of animals. Some hatched from eggs and some were born alive from their mothers.

We colored eggs with our first and last names. Then we had an egg hunt in our classroom to look for them.

We made yellow chicks.

We read the book The Country Bunny.

Our first chick!
