Horus the Hawk Headed God

The statue of Horus the hawk headed god was made some time in the old kingdom. It was found in RamsesII tomb.

Cermonial Axe of King Ahmose

Dig Number - 4567 Found in Cairo, Egypt in 1550 B.C.

The axe was made of stone and copper. It is painted gold and on the blade is people harvisting corn.

Egyptian Wig

Site Number: 328 Artifact Number: 3 Location: Hierank Oplis, Egypt in 3500 B.C.

Ancient Egyptian wigs were made of black human hair. The curls are kept in place by beeswax. The wigs were worn to prevent lice, or disguise natural baldness.

Wooden Winnowing Fork

Dig Number: 686 Artifact Number : 605 Found in Karanis, Egypt in the late 1920s.

The object shows that people in Karanis, Egypt knew the mechanics of woodworking. The Wooden Winnowing Fork was used to throw thrashed grain into the air in order to separate the grain from the chaff.

Tutankhamen's Sarcoffigus

Tomb Number: 62 Location: Valley of the Kings

King Tut's sarcoffigus is pretty much like any other sarcoffigus. The mummy goes into a small coffin called the inner coffin. Then the inner coffin goes into the second coffin for better protection. After it is put in the second it gets put in one last one. When the body is in all three it gets buried.

Crook & Flail

The crook is the symbol of the sheperd. The flail is used for threshing grain. The crook and flail are symbols of Osiris. They were a sign of royalty.

Necklace with Amulets

Site Number: 660 Artifact Number: 523 Found in early dynasty XVIII, Reign of Tuthmosis III

The necklace is a religious tradition and the beads are still used in prayer to ward off evil. Length 29cm, most Amulets, length 1 cm/width 0.5 cm.

The Rosetta Stone

The Rosetta Stone was discovered by the Nile by a Greek scholar. This Greek scholar discovered it in the New Kingdom in Egypt on February 11, 1799. On the stone was 3 different writing systems, Greek, Egyptian, and Hebrew. No one could crack the code of the Rosetta Stone. In 1987 Jean Chapillion, a French scholar cracked the code of the Rosetta Stone. That is how we know Egyptian, Greek, and Hebrew writing systems.

Ankh

In the shape of a mirror or a knot, the ankh is the symbol of life. It was often carried by deities or offered to the king as the breath of life.

Bronze Cat

Ptolemaic Period 305-30 B.C. Bronze height: 11 inches 56.16.1

The bronze cat was discovered in 1956 by Harris Brisbande Dick Fund. It was discovered on Aswan Egypt. The cat's right ear once held a gold ring, now lost. Its neck also held a gold necklace, also lost.

Cosmetic Jar

Dig Number: 25200 Belonging to: Women in Egypt Found in Hatshepsut's Temple.

A round and small jar. It is made out of clay.

Riverboat

Dig Number: 20.3.1 Dynasty: Early Dynasty 12 Time Period: 1985 B.C. Used by: Meketre

Made of wood. Painted in beautiful colors. Used by Meketre in the early dynasty 12. It was found in Thebes, tomb of Meketre. In the back of the boat is a rudder.

Senet- A Game

Site Number: 28 Artifact Number: 228 Location: King Tut's tomb

White and yellow with gold around the squares and gold designs and orange, yellow and tan through sticks, 7 blue spools and 7 purple cones. Purpose to society was entertainment.
