Egyptian history has three major time periods known as the Old Kingdom, Middle Kingdom, and the New Kingdom. Your journey will take you back to the beginning of civilization to the year 4000 B.C. This period of history marked the transition from nomadic life to a highly developed society. Small farming communities developed with established religions, laws, and customs.

You are to take on the role as an Egyptologists. As a contributing member of the Egypt Exploration Society , a "school museum" wants you to create artifacts that inform students and visitors of the lasting contributions made by this early civilization. Your task is to produce an artifact that identifies a major event, a belief, or a person of Ancient Egypt. Include with the artifact a didactic card that explains the influence of the artifact. Construct a time line of the three early kingdoms of Egypt and place your artifact in the appropriate time period with the correct date.

THE PROCESS:

2. Record your findings in your diary. Use this information to develop a time line showing the three ancient periods.
3. Dig into the pre-selected sites and find a topic that interests you.
4. Research your topic thinking about an artifact and its contribution(s) to society. Record all information in your diary including internet addresses.
5. Create your artifact. Using an index card, communicate an accurate description of artifact and its contributions to viewers of the museum. Place your artifact on your time line in the appropriate time period.
6. Display artifact in school museum.
7. Open museum to public.

EVALUATION:
You will receive a letter grade reflecting your understanding of the history of your artifact. Use this assessment as a guide as you complete your project.
