NCS – A Caring CommunityNCS – Acting Upon Our Beliefs and Values Each DayAugust 2006 Dear NCS Students and Parents: The summer has flown by all too quickly as we enjoyed the glorious Maine summer weather. The last few evenings have had a certain crispness to them that informs us all of the transformation toward autumn and the opening of another school year. Summer in a school is a very different time as the staff makes changes in the building, thoroughly cleans everything, moves teachers to new assigned locations and makes the school ready for a brand new year. We have recently completed the tiling of the lower lobby, middle pod and junior high connecting hallways and they are all shining brightly in anticipation of students arriving on September 5th. The gym floor has been refinished and looks beautiful and new lights throughout the gym makes it look like the sun is shining in there all of the time! We have a new Primary Reading Center located in Mrs. Powell’s old room in the primary wing that will support the initiation of the NCS Early Literacy Intervention Program for students in grades one through three. Mrs. Powell has now moved to the Middle Pod and Mrs. Henry to the Junior High area to teach for this year. It appears that all the components are in place for a great start to the 2006-07 school year. NCS welcomes two new staff members to our community as we start the new year. Mrs. Cindy Sabina is joining us as a teacher of math and language arts for grades seven and eight. Mrs. Deborah Pratt has also been hired to assist in the Kindergarten program as a Classroom Assistant. Mr. Bill Meade also returns as our school social worker. Bill isn’t completely new to NCS as he began shortly before the conclusion of last school year and he is the father of two of our former students. Aside from those new individuals we will have many familiar faces in familiar roles as the year begins. This year NCS embarks on a serious renewal of our recycling efforts throughout the building. We want students and school staff to lead the efforts in this community by learning ways to reduce our consumption of natural resources, reuse materials whenever possible and recycle all materials that be used over again. Staff will be talking with students throughout the year about more and more ways that NCS can follow a more Earth-friendly practice! I want to welcome you all to the 2006-07 school year and look forward to all of the excitement and engagement a school year offers.
Sincerely, Mark W. Deblois, Principal Dedicated to creating and supporting a challenging, respectful and safe learning environment where the uniqueness of each individual is honored.
