Weather

by Cam H., Katie B, and Justin R.

In our classroom we have been learning about the weather. We have read short stories about weather, have answered questions about weather, watched videos about clouds, and done experiments.

We learned about the following things this year like clouds, lightning, thunder, snow, rain, air pressure, the atmosphere, smog and many other things.

Today we learned about smog. Did you know that smog can be found over big cities and that it can hurt your eyes and lungs? Did you know that the word smog comes from the words smoke and fog?

We had to keep weather logs. We had to draw a picture and write a sentence about the weather. We also had to write down the temperature each day.

During the weekend we had to record the weather for Saturday and Sunday. When we got back to school on Monday we recorded Saturday's and Sunday's weather in our logs.

We kept the log for a whole month. We watched the weather forecast on the news each night. We learned that weather changes quickly and often even in a single day!

We know that lightning comes from clouds being split apart and that thunder happens when hot and cold air crash together. Did you know that it takes 5 seconds for the sound of thunder to move 1 mile? We found that out this year. So if you see a bolt of lightning and count to five you'll know the storm is five miles away!

We learned a lot about weather this year!

Weather is cool!
