Find The Starch

Carbohydrates are made up of starch and sugar. Starch gives you long lasting energy. It is found in bread, potato, tomatoes, strawberries, and more! People, like ice skaters, eat a big meal with lots of starch the night before a big show so they have energy. The other kind of carbohydrate is sugar. It is found in puddings, cakes, and sweets. They do not last for a long time. They only give you a little boost. You should eat 6-11 servings of starch a day.

Our parents came into school and played a game to test foods for starch. We really think that our parents liked to find the starch.

If you want to test foods for starch this is what you do -

  1. Get some different kinds of food
  2. Find some iodine
  3. Find an eye dropper
  4. Drop one drop of iodine on each food
  5. If the spot where you dropped the iodine is a dark color it has starch. If it has a light color then it does not have starch.

Our parents had good luck with their choices, good luck with yours!!
