Colonial Carding Wool

By Ali & Maeve

Before wool is spun into yarn it has to be carded. We will tell you how to do that. First you shear the sheep, then you use two tools called paddles. The paddles were originally made from thistles, but now are made with wire teeth. Most of the woman did the carding. Some men did the carding. Then it is able to be spun into yarn. If you were lucky and lived near by a town you could have someone do the carding for you cheaply.
