The early schools had one roof and four walls. The early schools had one or two windows. The early schools had three legged stools or a bench to sit on. The wood stove barely kept them warm during the winter. First through 8th grade were in the schoolhouse. The common writing tool was the quill pen. In winter the temperature dropped below zero. The teacher arrived no later then 7 AM to shovel to the wood shed and the toilets. By nine the Bible was read and prayers were said. From ten thirty to ten forty five was time for the big boys to bring in coal and go for water. WE THINK THE SCHOOLHOUSE WAS FUN!!!
