We hatched chicks in 1998!

Here is the story of hatching chicks in an incubator in our classroom.

We put eggs in an incubator. The first time there were no hatches. The eggs must not have been fertilized. We started again with new eggs.

We waited 21 days. We were excited when we saw a crack in an egg. We could hear peeping too!

When a chick hatches it is wet and very tired. It tries to walk and then has to rest awhile.

After a while the chicks get fluffier. They stay close to each other and do lots of peeping.

After a day we moved the chicks to a chick house we made from a box. There was food and water and a light to help keep the chicks warm.

The chicks like to sleep in a big pile!

We had fun sitting and watching the chicks. They grew fast in the four days we had them in our classroom.

It was fun to hold the chicks. They feel so soft!

It was hard to say good-by to the chicks, but we knew they would be happier back on the farm.
