This week we settled into our routine of small group activity time. We are continuing to read nursery rhymes together and enjoyed making Humpty Dumpty to act out the rhyme. We wrote stories about ourselves to learn more about each other. We are reviewing basic shapes-- this week we worked on circle and square. We explored with unifix cubes and pattern blocks, two of our math materials. We have been excited to watch our monarch butterflies emerge and painted butterflies with orange and black patterns.
Next week we will begin working on an alphabet letter every week. We will begin with Aa next week and continue in alphabetical order. On Monday your child will bring home a paper with the letter we are working on that week. Please put this up somewhere where you can talk about the letter and help reinforce it with your child throughout the week. We will work on recognizing our weekly letter in both its upper and lowercase form, writing the lowercase letter with the correct formation, and listening for the sound it makes in words.
Field Trip: We'll be going to Reny's Apple Orchard in Damariscotta on Thursday, Sept. 25 to learn about apple orchards and pick apples. Children should be dressed to be outdoors for the morning and have good shoes for walking. Snack will be provided that day.If there is anyone who would like to join us on this trip, please let me know.
Many of you returned the volunteer form from Judy Flanagan, our Volunteer Coordinator. If you are interested in volunteering and did not return this form, please let me know. I will be having a meeting for people interested in volunteering on Thursday, September 25 at 11:00.
