The Scott Chase House was built as a duplex house for Henry Clark and Captain George Wood in 1852. Henry Clark died in 1880 and Captain George Wood died in 1870 from consumption. The property was later acquired by Captain Jonathan Scott.
In 1962, the thirty-one room house was bought by Lois and Danilo Konvalinka. It was converted to the Musical Wonder House. There are 250 mechanical music instruments that tourists enjoy today. Maestro Konvalinka provides guided tours and conducts concerts in the summer season. The shop also has many fine music boxes. Some were from far away.
In the 1950s, Wiscasset had a special event called Open House Days. People would visit the beautiful old homes of our town. A story is told about one fine day in 1953. As the story goes, during an open house 350 people came to see the Scott Chase House but only 348 people left. When it was tea time, while the visitors were talking, two ladies came out of the upstairs bathroom! They had been taking a bath! They must have had a good time in that tub. Open House days continued for many years after to raise money for various town projects. The last one was in 1973.

Also known as the Musical Wonder House.
