KINGSBURY - NICKELS - THEOBALD HOUSE, 1763

by
Matt and Aubrey

The Kingsbury-Nickels-Theobald House is the oldest house on record and the first two-story building built in Wiscasset ! It was built by Colonel John Kingsbury in 1763. It is a Federal style house . It was built more than 234 years ago !!!

After Colonel Kingsbury died in 1764, it was sold to Captain William Nickels. Captain Nickels moved the house from Main Street to Federal Street in 1796. As quoted in an old journal, "Any house could be moved, with 90 yoke of oxen and five gallons of rum."

Dr. Philip Ernst Theobald was the next owner. His father came to this country as a chaplain serving in the British Army .

Mrs. Rinehart, an owner of a local historic B&B, and some books about Wiscasset's historic landmarks helped us get this information . It is fun to work on CyberFair .
