"Respectful Disagreeing"

There are five basic ways to disagree in a respectful manner:

1. Ask for different opinions to start disagreements.

"Why do you think that's best?" "What's your opinion?"

2. Ask others to explain their reasoning.

"Explain your thinking." "Show me how that would work."

"How will that solve the problem?"

3. Add on or modify.

"How about if we changed ___? "How about if we added____?"

4. Offer alternative answers.

"What do you think about ____?" "Wouldn't this also work?"

5. State disagreement.

"I have a different idea." "My answer is different."
