This all started when our teacher, Mrs. Saufler, brought in an article from the Brunswick Times Newspaper about two dogs that were shot and killed. The dog's names were Huck and Willa. Huck was a town Honorary Sheriff and Willa was a friendly dog. They were owned by Lisa Lattes and W. Hodding Carter.
Hodding Carter is the man responsible for building a Viking ship on Hermit Island near Phippsburg, Maine. The Viking ship has been constructed and it was launched at Hermit Island on Saturday, 4/26/97. It took seven months to build the ship. The ship weighed 12 tons and 24 tons with rocks to balance it.
Mr. Carter thought up the idea of building a Viking Ship in fifth grade when he read the book, The Vikings, by Elizabeth Janeway.
